GABE SERBIAN : GUITAR

we recently contacted Travis to tell us more 'bout this insane

band and give us a brief bio in how they got together ...

" cattle decapitation started in 1996, and this guy put out a 7"

record that did amazingly well, it was more od the style of the

other guys in my band's band ; THE LOCUST .

the guitarist/vocalist of the band bailed and has never heard

from again, they asked me if i wanted to play guitar and do

vox in 1997. i said " hell yeah" as it's been a while for me

doing death metal -type shit.

i used to play drums for this band called STRANGULATION, but

they kicked me out . It was Ben and Diego from DISGORGE (ca)

that did it. They were sick of my ass and they gave me the boot.

I was pissed for a while but in the end it's all good.

i started to do just vox for CATTLE DECAPITATION , and

Gabe ( originally on drums ) started playing guitar, and Dave

(originally on bass) started to play drums. He ( DAVE) had

always played drums for THE LOCUST and Gabe started playing

guitar for THE LOCUST shortly after our change.

We finally got our shit together and released an album on

Now, 2 albums and a 7" (3 songs from our second album in

spanish, our tribute to the brutality of mexican death metal )

later, we have Troy Oftedal on bass and he crushes.

We're currently shopping around for our next album

" TO SERVE MAN " it will sure crush that the band has done

to date and I'm very stoked on the new songs, and the

lyrics are getting more depraved and sick, completely

stepping over the lines of bad taste, without sounding

repetitive ( ex : talking 'bout raping women , eventual tie-ends

to being evil or satanic, pretty much what most other bands

why have never heard of us ???? ... we still have yet to break in the

death metal scene, we are very much death metal, we have been

labeled as gore/ grind , but we're very different the everyone else,

We have made quite a mark and following in the grindcore/hardcore

circuit. Most death metal folks don't really follow the other scene

i was talking 'bout (grindcore) , but the grincore/hardcore scene

knows all 'bout death metal ... it's weird ...

We may play with DISGORGE sometime soon ... I was going to

call Ben and set up a show. "

We contacted BYRON , from SCORACRASIA, and the creator of one

of the sickest underground zine, VIOLATED ROT, to tell us the forming

and how they gave birth to their new sick as fuck project.

well, first, could you please tell us who came up with the name of the

band, and the meaning ?

BYRON) well, we were struggling with a name because of the mad

amounts of beer that slosh down our throats and we didn't want

to jump the gun either with a random name, or something that

sounds like every other band out there, we happened across the

name while crusing the net, we saw the name SCORACRASIA

( SKORE UH KRAY ZHUH ) which means " involuntary defecation"

it just seemed to fit just right with us, thanx to the sick fucks

in ALTER CHRISTUS with that.

how did you guys get hooked up?

BYRON) well, i was sitting around one night, spanking it to the 60 minutes

show when the phone rang, it was an old friend of mine, SCOTT HUNTINGTON,

who happened to be hitting random buttons on his speed dial.

he said " who's this? " and i said " you fucking called me !!,who's this?.

well , along story short, he was looking to start a new band project as was

i ,and then it just took off. I called up my long time friend RICH HASSEY,

who has always wanted to put something together and he came in on

the bass, we just hooked up with our new drummer CHRIS MELVIN.

we are going to see how he works out.

where're you guys from?

BYRON) we are based on CAPE COD, MA. Not much of a death metal/

goregrind scene obviously on the CAPE, with the exception of

another brutal band, LEUKORRHEA, which is my friends' band, who you

MUST also check out, it is some sick shit !!!!

how can you describe the music you guys are putting together?

BYRON) good question, i would like to hear other people's opinion

on what they think it falls into when the cd is released, we feel

personally that we have taken on the direction of death metal/

goregrind, we just play as sickand as brutal as possible !!!!

you're working on a 5 song ep, when will it be released?

BYRON) right now, we are aiming for a late spring/ early summer

release, the track list for the demo is:

what are the lyrics 'bout?

BYRON) murder, rape, bashing people, rape after death, shit,

everything !!!! if something pisses me off i just write and write, we

just write whatever spews out of our brains.

are you planning to put up your songs on mp3?

BYRON) we are putting mp3's up . the two that will be up are

bloated floater and choke, they will be up within the next

two weeks ( as of march 14 , interview date)

how's the underground scene in your hometown, growing or dying?

BYRON) in MASSACHUSETTS in general the scene started to come

to life with sick bands like ; ETERNAL SUFFERING, BURIAL,

BANE OF EXISTENCE, LEUKORRHEA, in my town it's a

joke. LEUKORRHEA is local and they slay like i mentioned above,

but other than them and us, there isn't much as far as the CAPE is

concerned. it is starting to grow better than it was 2 years ago in

MA, IT'S NOT DYING IN THIS STATE THAT'S FOR SHIT SURE !!!

THIJS) we will play at the Ohio Death Fest, we'll do 2 gigs with

PESSIMIST and BURIAL in Baltimore and Pittsburgh, we're playing

in New York City with MORTICIAN , DEEDS OF FLESH , EXHUMED ,

DISGORGE ( us ) and DISGORGE ( mx )

your full lenght cd " feasting on blood " has been recieving good reviews

from the major underground zines, how's the album doin' back

THIJS) well, it's nice to hear we have tons of good reviews !!!!

in Europe, we're also doin' good, good reviews too, and we did

a european tour with MACABRE and BROKEN HOPE in January,

we'll also be playing in some festivals this summer.

you guys are playing at The Ohio Death Metal Fest, on May 27, how do

you expect people to react to your brutalizing death attack?

THIJS) i hope people like us, there's a lot of brutality goin' on in your

country, so i hope we're brutal enough!!! and we'll try to show the

Americans how to blow away the stage, THE EUROPEAN WAY !!!

you guys are playing at THE GODS OF GORE AND GRIND, in

NYC, with deeds and disgorge, what's the plan to outmaster

the American artillery?

THIJS) we will just play, headbang and torture for about 30 or 40

minutes, and i hope the American artillery gets too scared to go

with nothing else to say , we'd like to thank THIJS and SEVERE TORTURE

what's the actual line-up and for how long?

RENEE) hails and thanks for the interview, first off, the UNSANCTIFIED line-up consists of

BRAIN CARREON guitars

the line-up has been in effect sice summer 2000. there was a drummer

before me but he quit, and is not on the CD, that's me drumming there,

so UNSANCTIFIED has been around since 1999 and with on drums

where you guys from and how you guys got together?

RENEE) we're from all over the Los Angeles area, we live some

distance from each other, but still manage to rehearse and write on a

regular basis. BRAIN (guitar) ans MIKE (bass) already knew each

other, because they had played in other bands before, then came HANS (guitar) so the duel guitar attack could begin. next came LOTHAR

to do the vocals. I met HANS and BRAIN at an INCANTATION show,

and they were passing out flyers saying :

'' DEATH METAL DRUMMER NEEDED ''

at the time i was not in a band, and i was actually looking for one...

so it was perfect to meet 'em!!, when I first heard their songs I knew

I wanted to play drums for UNSANCTIFIED and so i've been

doing my best ever since.

who writes the songs?

RENEE) in general the 2 guitarists, HANS and BRAIN write the music,

then they show to me and MIKE (bass) and we create parts that fit, once

we have a basic skeleton of a song LOTHAR begins to write

the lyrics, then we just keep jamming and making whatever changes

are needed until the whole song feels right to everyone.

that's how most of our songs are written. LOTHAR has contributed

some guitar riffs as well, and even I would like to write some lyrics and guitar so

I think as time goes on ,everyone in the band will contribute both,

music and lyrics, I think this will increas the diversity in our songs

how hard is it for a female drummer to fit into the brutal death metal

scene here, in L.A.?

RENEE) not to hard most of the time, sometimes when I'm setting up

for a show i hear people in the crowd talking, '' a chick drummer ?"

but after we play I usally get respect and a lot of guys come up to me

and say ,'' hoe cool to have a chick death metal drummer '' , also,

sometimes girls come up and say they're glad to see a girl

playing and hope more women start playing in all extreme styles
